One highly recommended choice for an exclusive golf club within easy distance of 10 km of Ammata Lanta Resort is Summit Windmill Golf Course. Widely recognized as one of the most interesting and pleasurable courses in Thailand, its design by champion Nick Faldo exceeds international standards with a series of scenic lakes, overlapping hills and unexpected bunkers that demand a well considered strategy as you play along its beautiful fairways. It offers an 18-hole, par 72 layout stretching 6,964 yards from the first tee-off.

Ancient City

Outside the resort

Just a half hour’s drive from Ammata Lanta Resort, you can find the fascinating Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, a popular site for both local and international tourists and a great spot for some memorable photos.

A vast open-air museum design in the shape of Thailand, it offers visitors the chance to walk amidst replicas of the important sites of the country’s history, featuring a miniature walk-able map of the beautiful temples, palaces and ruins of ancient cities from the early history of the area to present day Thailand.

Most of the replica buildings are scaled down to an approximately one-third size of the originals. However, some of them are actual reconstructions of the buildings which were moved and rebuilt in the museum.

Travel through the past into Thai history and culture, visiting the sites of the various empires, principalities and kingdoms of history and enjoy their breathtaking architectural styles, such as the Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin, which have all influenced modern Thailand.

Erawan Museum

Outside the resort

The Erawan Museum is well known for its gigantic three-headed elephant statue easily spotted from the highway. It is a fascinating cultural site and a short drive from the resort.

The elephant statue itself is made of bronze and weighs 250 tons, is 29 metres high, 39 metres long and stands on a 15 metres high pedestal. Visitors can enter the pedestal, which is the 1st and 2nd floors of a heritage museum, representing the Underworld and Earth of the ancient Hindu conception of the universe respectively, with the third and top floor representing Heaven and actually located in the belly of the elephant.

Wat King Kaew

Outside the resort

The large temple complex of Wat King Kaew, built in 1885 during the reign of HM King Rama V, is a visual feast as well as a place of serenity and a symbol of Thai heritage. It is easily recognized by the massive golden Buddha statue in the centre of it. The various shrines, pagodas and other fascinating buildings here are cared for by monks and visitors will find many lovely and quiet spots for rest and contemplate life’s mysteries and beauties.

Mega Bangna Shopping Centre

Outside the resort

A mere 30 minutes drive from the resort, you can find the huge 35,000 square metres Mega Bangna Shopping Centre. This vast mall of shops, restaurants and services was built with the concept of having “everything under one roof” and certainly lives up to it — and at affordable prices. In fact, Mega Bangna is a great place for bargains. Hosting Thailand’s first IKEA outlet, it is also the prime destination for DYI home decorators. Free parking is offered and there is also a complimentary shuttle connecting to Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain.
